Our facilitators are prepared by the Center for Courage & Renewal through a year-long process of experiential learning, reflection and discernment. All Washington Courage & Renewal retreats and programs are led by nationally trained Courage & Renewal facilitators.

, M.A. is the Associate Director of the Center for Courage & Renewal. He also is a consultant to schools whose work focuses on helping educators build and sustain the healthy human relationships required for effective learning and organizations. Terry worked in public schools as a teacher and administrator for 30 years, last as a central administrator with Seattle Public Schools. He is a graduate of the first Danforth Principal Preparation cohort at the U.W., and he has facilitated school improvement efforts as both teacher leader and administrator. He designs workshops, coaches, and mediates conflict situations with teachers and principals.

, M. Ed. is a professional development coach. She facilitates "courage" retreats and leads workshops in and out of schools on communication, conflict resolution, leadership development, school reform, and instructional improvement. Yarrow was the founding Director of Washington Courage To Teach from 2001 through 2005.

, MSW, LICSW, has over 22 years of experience in community mental health as a child and family therapist, manager, and administrator. A past participant of Courage & Renewal programs, Catherine rediscovered her calling to work with people for personal discovery and healing. She is impassioned about helping her human service colleagues rediscover their energy and commitment to themselves, their clients and vocation.
Karen Harding is an instructor at Pierce College, where she is the senior member of the Chemistry Department. She is a leader in efforts to improve science education and passionately committed to environmental issues. Karen is committed to the field of education and has led Courage & Renewal experiences for college staff and faculty.

, M.S.W., M.P.H. co-directs the Center for Courage & Renewal. Marcy is primarily responsible for the Courage & Renewal Facilitator Preparation Program. She has been co-facilitating Courage to Teach and Courage to Lead retreats since 1996. For the past 25 years Marcy has worked extensively with individuals, groups, and families as a therapist and retreat facilitator in a variety of settings including in hospitals and health care, educational and retreat centers, community mental health, and tribal settings.

, M.A.R., M.Div. co-directs the Center for Courage & Renewal. Rick consults and speaks with non-profit organizations and foundations on a range of topics, including sustaining the identity and integrity of teachers and leaders, community leadership development, and strategies to foster long-term sustainable change. He was ordained a minister in the United Church of Christ in 1979, and was an executive with the YMCA for 25 years.

, Ph.D. is a principal assistant at Havermale High School in Spokane. She taught for 24 years at Shadle Park and Lewis and Clark high schools before assuming her administrative position. She has ten years of experience in conflict resolution with Spokane Public Schools. Her doctoral dissertation, "Rekindling the Spirit to Teach", addresses the topic of teacher renewal and formation.

, B.A. is currently an Instructional Services Coach for Seattle School District. Growing up in a migrant farm worker family laid the groundwork for Anita Morales's lifetime commitment to opening up life choices through quality education for poor students and students of color. She has worked for 20 years as a language arts and social studies teacher in inner city elementary and middle schools in Seattle. Anita has also worked with colleagues to write district standards, assessments, and professional practice guidelines.

, M. Ed. is a consultant on leadership and organizational development to schools, school districts, and other organizations throughout the USA. During his more than 30 years in education, John has served as teacher, counselor, principal, and area administrator in the multicultural communities of Seattle. He is a faculty member in the Danforth Leadership Preparation Program and the Center for Educational Leadership at the University of Washington.

, M.B.A. Over the past fifteen years, Alan has worked in a variety of leadership positions in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. He has extensive experience facilitating groups of individuals and work teams. Alan has a strong background in strategic planning, outcomes evaluation and nonprofit management. He was the Acting Executive Director of Washington Courage & Renewal from Sept. '05 thru Sept. '06. Alan is also currently a Partner of Social Venture Partners.

, M.A. is an organizational development consultant with over 20 years of experience working with formal leaders and serving professionals in the fields of healthcare, education, law, and other non-profit arenas. Her work in coaching and consulting involves creating spaces that invite an ongoing exploration of the polarities that often exist between people's deep purpose, aspirations, and values; and the realities---both opportunities and challenges---of teaching, leading, and healing in the context of organizational life.

, M. Ed., PhD is a life-long educator, with more than 30 years of teaching children and adults. Formerly the Director of Teacher Education for Pacific Oaks College NW, she currently is in an administrative position in a Seattle School District elementary school. Her work as a facilitator for Courage to Teach brings together many aspects of her personal and professional commitment to nurturing and supporting teachers and learners.
